Sutil hopes updates will lift Force India

Sutil hopes updates will lift Force India

Adrian Sutil is hopeful that the updates tried out on his Force India at Silverstone this week will help lift his team closer to their opposition at the British Grand Prix.

Force India ran with revamped aerodynamics, including a shark fin engine cover, plus an inerter in their bid to move themselves off the back of the field.

And although their week's running at Silverstone was hit by Giancarlo Fisichella's heavy accident on the second day, Sutil is pleased with the feel of the new bits.

When asked by autosport.com if he believed the new parts would help lift the team back up the order, Sutil said: "We hope so, for sure. Let's see if we can catch back Honda a little bit.

"All the other teams are too far away and Toro Rosso are quite far with the new car, so our goal is to keep up with the other cars. Then we want to make the gap closer and then be able to race again."

He added: "There were a few bits that worked quite well and a few bits that needed to be tested a little bit more. Aerodynamic wise I think we did a step. We had a new damper, which needs a bit more testing because there was a lot of understeering, but we really need the updates.

"I think we have about three tenths with these updates. Let's see how much we can get out of it, but overall it was positive."

Sutil said he was unsure if the team would use the inerter for the British Grand Prix, but thought it would at least be run in Friday testing.

"We have to discuss it," he explained. "Let's see what the data says and how we go on the Friday. We have not so much time on the weekend to test anything new and make a risk. But we will decide in the next few days."
