Coulthard apologises after early exit

David Coulthard apologised to his Red Bull team after failing to complete a lap on his final home grand prix on Sunday.

The Scot, who on Thursday announced his retirement from Formula One at the end of the season, made contact with Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel during the first lap on the wet track.

Both cars spun into the gravel and were forced to retire.

Coulthard took the blame for the accident, and apologised for the error.

"I'm extremely disappointed and sorry for the team," Coulthard told BBC radio.

"I've taken out two Red Bull cars so that's obviously the worst case scenario... you have to take your opportunities when they come in a race like this and I thought I saw a gap.

"Unfortunately it turned out it was a bad decision."
