A team spokesman said the move was purely precautionary because of the high demands placed on engines over the back-to-back Spa-Francorchamps and Monza weekends.
It will also mean that Webber goes onto a more suitable race cycle for the final races of the season, as well as ensuring a new engine for the finale in Brazil.
Webber will not suffer a penalty because of the engine change, as teams are allowed to make one 'joker' substitution over the course of the season. Any other engine change results in a 10-place grid penalty.
