Glock: Toyota has to fight for first win

Toyota will be left unhappy if it does not fight for its first Formula 1 win this year, claims Timo Glock.

With the team's new TF109 having impressed in early testing, and rivals conceding the Japanese manufacturer is now ready to fight at the front, Glock himself confirms that ambitions are high.

Speaking to the official Formula 1 website about comments from team president John Howett that 2009 marks a crucial year for the future of Toyota, Glock said: "For me the important thing is to focus on preparing for the season, so I don't worry about the other stuff.

"We want to win this year, that's clear, and we will all be disappointed if we're not fighting to win our first grand prix."

Glock thinks that there is every reason to believe Toyota will be in the hunt for a top-three spot from the off, with the season due to kick off in Melbourne later this month.

"I hope we are fighting for the podium in Australia," he said. "In pre-season testing we have looked competitive so we have to be optimistic.

"My feeling is better this year compared to last year, partly because of the slick tyres but also because the car just feels better. We want to be consistently in the points and finishing on the podium more often - and hopefully on the middle step of the podium."
