Chinese GP moves to April date

The Chinese Grand Prix will become the third round of the 2009 world championship under the latest version of next season's Formula One calendar.

An amended schedule was agreed at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris today.

The Shanghai race moves from its previous October date to 19 April, with the Bahrain Grand Prix consequently moving back one week.

The alteration allows the championship to finish earlier, as the Brazil and Abu Dhabi races have now been moved forward by a fortnight, with the latter now scheduled for 1 November.

Despite talks between Montreal officials and Bernie Ecclestone, it appears there has been no progress regarding the future of the Canadian Grand Prix, so the calendar remains at 17 races.
